The Christmas WishIt all seemed a million miles away as Mary Warren sat gently rocking in the same white-washed rocker her mother used to lull her to sleep in, staring out across the neatly manicured gardens. Lost in thought, disappointment furrowed deep into her brow as she poured over the last few years of her life.

Just before dawn, Mary awoke shaking with the vivid images of that terrible night running through her mind. The haunting memories washing over her like a waterfall, flooding her soul with grief and abject sadness.

Not wanting to face the same nightmare again, she quietly arose and climbed out of bed. Creeping down past both her mother and her daughter's rooms to her favorite corner of the expansive southern-styled porch to spend precious time alone and watch the sun rise. More than ever before, she needed to be out there. To soothe her soul in the tranquil peace of the garden and be in quiet conversation with God. To once again be grounded in the words of comfort her trusted Lord gave her each morning.

Staring out over the horizon, with a thousand thoughts running through her mind at once, Mary felt a the very least overwhelmed. She wondered why that night continued to haunt her. Why she still felt so entrapped by it all...
